As assistant vice president for development in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, Dusit International’s Andrew Shaw has enjoyed a busy year, especially within the mid-market hospitality segment.

In line with Dusit International’s stated goal to have half of its operations beyond the borders of Thailand by 2022, the Asia-based operator set up shop in the UAE over a decade ago with the opening of the Dusit Thani Dubai.

Since that time, the hotel company has successfully extended its presence and, over the last 12 months, it has doubled its regional pipeline and signed a hotel management agreement with Al Manzil Hospitality Group to operate the dusitD2 Seef Bahrain, which is scheduled to open in Manama, Bahrain, in 2018.

Dusit International operates six hotels in the region and more than 1,731 rooms. It also currently boasts a total of eight hotels in the pipeline. Since Shaw took office, the company has expanded into the Nairobi, Ethiopia, Turkey, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Bahrain markets.

“We have nine properties in the region, and on a global basis we have 51 in the pipeline. Within the next two to three years, we should have 70 operating properties across 20 countries. At the moment we have 29 operating hotels across eight countries,” Shaw says.
