R Hotels has grown from strength to strength since its inception. Starting with two properties in 2010, the group now has seven in its portfolio: six operational and one to be completed in October 2017.

The group has established and furthered partnerships with the biggest hotel groups in the world and, under franchise agreements, it has been responsible for bringing four new hotel brands into the UAE. Under the leadership of managing director Sumair Tariq R Hotels’ strategies for growth and expansion have been characterised as bold yet prudent.

R Hotels, which is based in Ajman, UAE, possesses the biggest room inventory in the emirate. Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman and Ramada Beach Hotel Ajman continue to lead in occupancy in the Northern Emirates, and the group is set to increase its market share with the opening of Wyndham Garden Ajman Corniche before the end of 2017.

In Dubai, the group marked its first partnership with AccorHotels in 2015, with the opening of the first Ibis Styles hotel, located in Jumeirah. In 2013, under a franchise agreement with Wyndham Hotel Group, R Hotels introduced the first Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham in the UAE, situated at Jumeirah Beach Residence.

Most recently, through a franchise agreement with AccorHotels, R Hotels is opening the first MGallery by Sofitel in the UAE, dubbed the “first holistic wellness resort in the region”. The 255-key hotel and resort — The Retreat Palm Dubai — introduced the wellness resort concept to Dubai, with a holistic wellbeing centre. In order to implement the concept, which aims to tap the growing wellness tourism sector, the group invested significantly, and formed a partnership with Dubai Health Authority.

“While 2016 was not the best year for the hotel industry, the group was able to establish a good track record of successfully delivering its projects, and is continuously looking for new opportunities for investments,” Tariq says, adding that R Hotels is continuing to seek prudent new investment opportunities through the acquisition and development of new hotels in key leisure and business tourism locations, both within and beyond the UAE.

At the same time, Tariq and his team understand that in placing an emphasis on guest service excellence for the hotels within its group, the company’s key resource is its staff. Consequently, in order to boost employee satisfaction and ensure low staff turnover, R Hotels invests heavily in employee engagement activities, such as training, team-building activities, and sports initiatives, as well as in a range of CSR-related programmes.
